“I'm a middle aged male with 3 decades of weightlifting experience. I sought out personal training because my workouts had stagnated for quite some time and I had run out of ideas on how to progress and keep things fresh. I started working with Justin Kumai 1-2 times per week and it definitely turned my training around in a few ways. Justin introduced me to lifting concepts such as time-under-tension (efforts of 40 seconds or greater), giant sets and constant variation in programming which were completely different than what I was used to. Justin was very good at explaining the mechanics of various lifts that he would program into the workout and at highlighting how to isolate particular muscle groups with certain unique movements. After a few months I noticed that chronic shoulder and elbow inflammation that I had been dealing with for a significant period of time began to recede due to intentional programming in of more stabilizer and upper back work. I also noticed that while putting on size, I was generally less beat up after training because the time-under-tension type workouts tended to be easier on my joints and tendons. Overall, I found the workouts to be challenging and intense and, as I've mentioned, they sparked gains in muscle mass and strength that I didn't think were attainable. I was very happy with the progress that I made with with Justin and highly recommend him as a strength and weightlifting coach/trainer”

“If you are looking for someone to motivate you, make you feel accountable, and help you with your fitness goal journey, Justin is the best! When I first began going to the gym, I had no idea how to use any of the equipment, was unsure of how to do any exercises (besides your basic crunches and squats), felt unmotivated, and didn’t have much of a goal to work towards other than “to be fit”. Justin helped me learn the functionality of each machine and how to have proper form for each and every exercise. Anytime I failed to have correct form, he would guide me to be sure I never had a chance of injuring myself. He helped me find “my way” of exercising and what worked best for me to feel motivated to come in every week! In the beginning of my training, I thought that the weight lifting bar itself was heavy, but after only 5 months of training, I am now able to deadlift 150lbs. It’s been crazy seeing the transition in my body, and I wouldn’t have been able to achieve my fitness goals without him”!

“Training using Justin’s program was challenging and rewarding. I was coming back from an ACL injury and wanted to comfortably return to sports without fear of re-injuring. After 6 weeks of physical therapy I reached out and he created a plan that was catered towards my goals. It had a variety of lifts and movements that did not feel repetitive.
